In March/April 2017, a team from LMU Munich, headed by A. Otto, participated in the excavations of Prof. E. Stone (Stony Brook University, NY) and Dr. A. Hamdani at Ur (Southern Iraq). The team investigated the South Mound by means of a geophysical survey and limited excavations near the Southern edge of the city. A house of the Isin-Larsa period was partly excavated. It contained among other finds cuneiform tablets and sealings, which allow to date its occupation of Level 4, phase 3 precisely to 1870-35 BC. This gives a valuable fix point for pottery and other material.
The campaign was supported by the Gerda Henkel Stiftung.
